    Effects

    St. John's wort is used to improve and calm the state of mind. It also purifies the skin and has a good influence on the stomach. The effects are slow but long lasting, when used regularly.

    Use

    Put together in a glass of water to boil 1-2 teaspoons of the dried herb and boil for 10-15 minutes. This infusion should be drunk 3 times a day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

    Notice

    St. John's wort negatively influences the effects of certain medications. This herb increases the effect of the cytochrome P450 enzyme (in the liver). This causes certain drugs to be assimilated more quickly, making them less efficient.

    When mixing a medication with St. John's wort it is imperative that you consult your physician.

    It has been observed that St. John's wort may reduce the effect of the following medications:
    - immune system inhibitors, for example against organ transplants and autoimmune ailments: cyclosporine;
    - coumarin-type anticoagulants, such as acenocoumarol (Sintrom, etc.) and phenprocoumon (Marcumar, etc.);
    - anticonvulsants: phenobarbital and phenytoin;
    - bronchodilators: theophylline;
    - glycosides for heart defects and heart rhythm disorders: digoxin;
    - HIV virus inhibitors: indinavir.

    St. John's wort may also influence the effect of SSRI-type antidepressants. The mixture is not recommended.

    An incidental case of hemorrhage was observed with simultaneous use of St. John's wort and certain types of contraceptive pills (the mixture of ethinyl estradiol and dosogestrel, also known as sub-50).
